Bahasatype is a multilingual type foundry based in Indonesia. We design type across languages and writing systems, informed by how typography is used in everyday life. Working within a context where multiple scripts naturally coexist, Latin, Arabic, and other Asian scripts appear side by side across branding, education, religious practice, and digital platforms. This environment shapes our approach to form, structure, and function in type design.
Our practice combines commercial type design, script research, and technical development. We work on custom typefaces, multiscript systems, and script engineering, carefully balancing cultural context with contemporary production needs.

Abdurrahman Hanif started with a background in publishing, where he discovered his interest in typography. His curiosity about language systems and Arabic calligraphy led him into type design.
He went on to work as an independent type specialist for international foundries. With a strong focus on Arabic script and experience working with complex writing systems, he later founded Bahasatype.
